My friend and I got involved in the April A-Z blogging challenge and it motivated us to post 26 blogs. Now we find ourselves on April 30th worried all of that momentum will go to waste. But fear not, we came up with a great idea, the May Day Blogging Challenge. Check the previous post for details.
May 3rd 1926 marked the opening of a revival of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” in New York. The play which was first performed on February 14, 1895 at St. James Theatre in London, is a farcical comedy about high-society, romance, and marriage. You can read more about it here.
I found this quote from the play and it inspired my poem which follows:
“It is always painful to part from people whom one has known for a very brief space of time. The absence of old friends one can endure with equanimity. But even a momentary separation from anyone to whom one has just been introduced is almost unbearable.”
Two times I saw your face, and
two times I knew I wanted to see it again.
Two times you said yes, and
two times you gave me the courage to ask again.
Two times you opened your heart, and
two times you let me in.
Two times I worried, and
two times you set my mind at ease.
Two times I wondered when I’d start to feel, and
two times I knew I already did.
One time you allowed fear to get the best of you, and
now I wait for three.
